After a long summer, students’ study habits and skills are often rusty and in need of repair. This one-week course geared toward middle school students may be the perfect solution for refreshing these skills and helping students to gain confidence and enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. This course will cover many of the critical skills necessary for academic achievement: organization, time management, techniques for taking notes on lectures and class discussions, and studying for and dealing with a variety of test formats. Come join us and get a jump on the new school year!
Deep Dive into Reading Comprehension (1 section offered from 12:00-3:00pm)
How can students glean the most from their reading? Join us for five days of exploring various types of reading material and the structures within each. Students will learn strategies for interacting with texts to maximize comprehension. These essential reading skills can be applied to summer reading assignments as well as school-year academic reading.
Writer’s Workshop (1 Section offered from 12:-3pm)
The summer is a great time for students to build and refine writing skills in preparation for the new school year. This one-week course will cover important writing skills that students will require at the middle school level. Students will spend each day learning strategies to strengthen sentences, construct paragraphs, build essays, and edit/revise their finished products in a fun, interactive learning environment.
NOTE: Deep Dive into Reading Comprehension and the Middle School Writer’s Workshop are designed to complement and enhance Study Skills I. Families are encouraged to sign up for morning and afternoon sessions.
